I’m Marie, the recipe creator, photographer and food taster behind Half a Coconut. Welcome to my little space on the web where I share my favourite recipes! At Half a Coconut you can expect to find authentic recipes that are time-saving and tasty. I also share with you my proven ways of making the most of ingredients using sustainable methods.
My passion for food is an inheritance that I am so grateful for. Growing up around the most authentic and delicious foods is a blessing that over the years I have cherished. All the cooking that I have perfected over the years translates happy food memories into delicious recipes.
What you expect to find on my blog
Half a Coconut was born on the web to reflect my idea about food. I believe homemade food can be made delicious without spending hours in the kitchen. I share tips and tricks for a stress-free, time-saving cooking experience.
Restaurant-style cooking is all about the balance of flavours. You can cook food at home that tastes as authentic as your favourite takeaway or restaurant. This can be achieved by using the right flavour combinations in a dish.
Sustainable living can be achieved by planning your weekly cooking. This eventually leads to less food gone to waste. Finding other ways to use the same ingredients in a variety of dishes is what helps me adopt a sustainable style of living. There are other effective ways to live sustainably and this is one of the areas I am currently working on.
About me
I was lucky to be born in one of the most heavenly places on earth, which is the tropical island of Mauritius. Being exposed to a variety of fresh tropical ingredients from fruits and veg to herbs and spices, I enjoyed eating food made from scratch at every meal. Coming over to the UK, I had to adapt to a much busier life than my previous laid-back lifestyle. I had to fit cooking in my busy schedule and I wanted to replicate dishes the exact same way as my parents’ cooking. That’s when I came up with the idea that cooking can be made practical and more time-savvy whilst retaining all the authentic flavours.
About my cooking
The food I have been exposed to is multicultural, with Chinese, Indian, European and African influences. My cooking is based on these particular cuisines, however in the recent years I have expanded my repertoire having gained exposure to the multitude of cuisines whilst living in London and travelling around Europe.
